Child and adolescent speech and language therapy (SALT) - NELFT

We provide a service in the London Borough of Havering to children and young adults (0-19 years) with disorders or delays of speech, language, communication and/or feeding or swallowing.

The service supports children and young people who may experience difficulties in the following areas:

  • listening to and understanding language
  • talking in words and sentences
  • social interaction
  • using clear speech
  • fluent speech (stammering)
  • eating and swallowing

Learning to communicate is a complex skill, which is very important for social and educational development. The team works with parents, carers, early years practitioners, schools and other healthcare professionals to create a supportive environment for the development of communication skills.

There are many reasons why a child may find speech, language and communication difficult including hearing impairment, cleft palate, physical difficulties, learning difficulties or Autism. For many other children there is no obvious explanation for their difficulties. Our team of therapists includes specialists in all these areas.
