Is This Fun For Everyone?
Is This Fun For Everyone? Is a fully constituted Voluntary Organisation working in Schools, Pupil Referral Units, Youth Services and Youth Offending Teams. We are also a London Borough of Havering Alternative Education Approved Provider.
Founded by Mike Lane in early 2004 when he was invited by local partners, residents and secondary schools to help reduce local ASB by talking to students at school in their PSHE lessons. Following this successful pilot initiative Mike was funded to deliver the project, based on Restorative Practices, to all 18 Havering secondary schools. In December 2004 Mike received a Home Office Award for his successful work in schools and the community.
Since then we have considerably increased the range of services we deliver to young people. We continue to work in schools, education, youth services, youth offending teams, community groups and housing.
In 2010 we designed a targeted youth engagement programme that we titled ‘I am…Somebody’ inspired by the 1971 poem with that title, written by Jesse Jackson. The aim is to engender self-belief and self-worth in young people who may be vulnerable, marginalised, challenging or offending. Our ethos, which we follow through all our programmes, is We believe every young person has the potential to be somebody who is valued in their community.
In the last 3 years we have also been commissioned to deliver projects using our ‘I am…Somebody’ programmes to reduce youth re-offending and young people’s substance misuse. These have a proven track record.
In 2014 we received lottery funding to support our ‘Chance to Shine’ pro-active programme to support young people who have risk factors in their lives that may impact on their wellbeing, education, family relationships, employment prospects and their interaction with others in the community.
