Bedfords Park Walled Garden
Bedfords Park walled garden is all that remains of the Georgian (18th C) estate within Bedfords Park, Havering atte Bower. The project was initially to regenerate the derelict historical community asset and to rejuvenate it to become a productive community food growing hub. With the help of a Lottery grant the focus is health and well-being, training and development. 5 beneficiary groups specifically benefit from the grant Schoolchildren: The Grow Cook Eat programme, a holistic approach to understand healthy eating including gardening and lunch cooking/prep. A Saturday club starts Spring 2016. And formal Horticultural training for 14+ will start April after Easter 2016 Over 50s: As well as the regular volunteering days Wed has a Growing Friends club. Its a gardening club and this is the day when workshops take place. 11am to 3pm weekly. Horticulture courses: Were an official Learning Centre providing formal horticulture course for everyone, the only training in Havering The unemployed: compulsory work placements take place in the garden Adults with learning difficulties are very welcome in the garden on volunteering days and supported as part of the community. Young Offenders are welcome in the garden on volunteering days and we can arrange specific projects Our volunteering days are every Tuesday and Thursday 10am to 3pm, as well as the Growing Friends club on Wed. Everyone is welcome and these are the days to pop into the garden to have a look. We also welcome corporate teams for their community and volunteering days. We run 3 festivals summer, Harvest and Halloween And we also hire rooms and the garden for meetings and private events. Were happy to do presentations about the garden at other group meetings
